Flight Training

Learning to fly is a process of gaining aeronautical knowledge, proficiency, and experience. You can think of the process to becoming a pilot as a series of steps. Some steps, such as aeronautical knowledge, can be integrated throughout your training process. Others, like solo training, come when your instructor has provided the required training and he or she decides that you are ready. The process can be broken down into the following subjects:

  • Aeronautical knowledge and FAA knowledge test

  • Pre-solo training in the airplane

  • Solo training

  • Flying to other airports (cross-county training)

  • Solo cross-county training

  • Practical test preparation

  • Practical test

In your checkride, you’ll bring together elements from every aspect of training to prove your aviation skills and knowledge by talking to and flying with an FAA Designated Examiner. It’s the last step to earn your pilot certificate, but your journey as an aviator has only just begun.  As the old timer pilots say "You Now Have A License To Learn."

About Flying Mentor

Flying on a professional level has always been a dream of mine since childhood.  I got my start in aviation at a small FBO in Durham NC at the age of 17, this is where my journey to my dream of becoming a pilot began.  In April of 2008 I received the opportunity to attend Airline Transport Professionals in Panama City FL.  During my stay in Florida I received the best flight instruction and gained valuable flight experience which provided a solid foundation for my start as a Professional Pilot..  After flight school, I felt compelled to impart my knowledge of flying to the masses, and so Flying Mentor was founded to take on the mission of helping pilots become better pilots by giving them the information and tools they need to succeed.  “I Am Here For Your Success!”
